Welcome to Cherokee County, home of Weiss Lake, over 30,000 acres of water created by the Coosa, Chattooga, and Little Rivers. The 446 miles of shoreline is surrounded by beautiful mountain ranges.
We are located in the northeast section of the state of Alabama within a short driving distance to Atlanta, Birmingham, and Chattanooga. We enjoy a moderate climate with seasonal changes.
Among our natural assets is Little River Canyon National Preserve. The canyon stretches more than 18 miles in Cherokee and DeKalb counties and plunges 700 feet deep. It is one of the deepest gorges east of the Mississippi River. Little River is unique in that it forms and flows most of its length on top of a mountain.

Cherokee Rock Village is a 200 acre county park containing ancient boulders - some as large as 200 feet tall.
History abounds in Cherokee County. Cornwall Furnace was an important part of the Confederate States iron works during the War Between th States. Set in a county park, the Furnace is said to be the best preserved in the country. Native American history is evident throughout the county.
